The Law: It has honored us. We may honor it.
-- Daniel Webster
Former District Judge Paul Enlow is a man who loves serving a higher and greater cause than himself. He feels there are few callings more noble than serving the people as a judge. What a wonderful privilege it has been to serve in a profession whose goal is to diligently seek the truth and then apply it to the cases in front of them. As Thomas Jefferson has said, "The most sacred of the duties of a government {is} to do equal and impartial justice to all citizens".
He is a strict Constitutional constructionist. He believes that judges should interpret the Constitution as closely as possible to what the founding fathers intended....that understanding the Constitution is possible only through a proper historical understanding of the debates and the conclusions reached two hundred years ago. That when the standard of original intent is abandoned, Court decisions lack unified and principled results. That the current struggle over the Supreme Court is not just about law, it's about the future of our culture...about the condition of the culture we will leave for our children and grandchildren.
He believes that we must watch for judicial tyranny from within, or what Jefferson called the "despotic branch." He agrees with Justice Bork that judges "have weakened the authority of other institutions, public and private, such as schools, businesses, and churches; assisted in sapping the vitality of religion through a transparently false interpretation of the establishment clause; denigrated marriage and family; destroyed taboos about vile language in public; protected as free speech the basest pornography, including computer-simulated child pornography; weakened political parties and permitted prior restraints on political speech, violating the core of the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of speech; whittled down capital punishment, on the path, apparently, to abolishing it entirely; and made the criminal justice system needlessly slow and complex, tipping the balance in favor of criminals."
He is a husband, a father and a grandfather. He is a man of faith who knows that a person's faith is inextricably intertwined with every aspect of their life. He is a true, pro-family conservative who has enjoyed participating in and supporting Republican functions and clubs for many years. He has spent time, effort and money in seeing Republican candidates get elected and Republican ideals become reality.
He agrees with President Bush that America remains a shining example to the world of all that a free people can achieve.
And having been a part of it, he is, among all men, most richly blessed.
